The School of Musical Instrument Crafts (Violin Making and Repair) staff and students attended the BVMA’s Makers’ Day event at the weekend in London.
Students got to learn about different specialities, network with peers in their industry - enabling them to make important connections for after graduation, as well as showcasing their work and highlighting our unique degree and foundation courses in Violin Making and Repair.
Paul Staples, Curriculum Lead for Musical Instrument Crafts, said: "The BVMA Makers' Day has been excellent. We brought our students from across the different areas of our violin courses to meet different makers, to talk to different specialists in the industry, but also to campaign and raise awareness about our BA and foundation courses.
"It has been a fantastic day, hundreds and hundreds of people have attended and this has given our students a truly invaluable experience.
"We're really looking forward to doing more days like this, and to raise the profile of the BA degrees in Musical Instrument Crafts at Newark and on celebrating the fantastic skills of both our teaching team and our students."
Charlotte, a BA (Hons) Musical Instrument Crafts (Violin Making and Repair student, said: "I'm a first year on the BA (Hons) Violin Making and Repair degree. It's been great to attend the Makers' Day event. I've met lots of makers in the industry and seen loads of incredible, beautifully made instruments."
Nic, a Foundation Violin Making and Repair student, added: "It's been an excellent day. There's quite a lot of different makers specialising in repair, bow making, general crafts, and a lot of specialities and innovators as well.
"I've had a great time talking to everyone and I especially liked talking to Christopher, a bow maker and repairer, who's given me some excellent pointers as to where to look in the future."
