The School of Musical Instrument Crafts opened its door as part of Heritage Open Days 2023.
Each September, thousands of volunteers across the country come together to host events and open days - allowing visitors to experience local history, architecture and culture.
Joining in with the Heritage Open Days 2023, the School of Musical Instrument Crafts welcomed visitors on Friday 16th September to explore the campus and courses within.
Musical Instrument Crafts has been taught at Newark College since 1972 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary year.
Guided tours of the guitar, piano, violin, and woodwind workshops took place throughout the day.
The tour gave visitors an insight into this specialist craft industry, offering a chance to see work in progress on instruments being made and restored.
Visitors who attended the Heritage Open Day said after the event:
“We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Musical Instrument Craft workshops and would like to say thank you to all at the College concerned with this event.
"It was a real insight to be guided round the various suites of rooms and to hear about the history and on-going development of these unique courses - thank you again.”
-Helen and Gary Bate
“On behalf of Rainworth u3a local history group, would you please thank all those involved in making our visit on 16th September such a success.
"The young man who showed and explained his violin making, then played for us, was particularly enjoyable.
"Several of our group had long wanted to see inside the Watson Fothergill building and were not disappointed. It is a hidden treasure.
"Thank you again, and let’s hope it will be repeated next year for those who were unable to come this time.”
-Diane Hibbert, Rainworth u3a local history group
