The annual Musical Instrument Crafts Celebration Evening was held to honour the exceptional skills and dedication of degree students in the art of making and restoring musical instruments.
The celebration event, held at Hope Community Methodist Church, Newark, on Thursday, June 26, welcomed students, colleagues and distinguished guests of the College.
During the event, talented musicians gave a taste of the newly hand-crafted instruments with exceptional performances, including Clarice Rarity, Adam Maha and David Burrowes playing newly crafted string instruments, and professional guitarist, Steve Hicks and Sungbin Cho, on student-made guitars.
Graduating Piano Tuning and Restoration student, Max Gordge, played a spectacular performances on the Church's grand piano as well as professional pianist, Chris Miggells.
The evening concluded with the annual prize-giving ceremony, with spotlight awards for ‘Endeavour’, ‘Most Improved Student’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement’, thanks to the generosity of the evening’s sponsors.
Maggie Bagley, Curriculum Lead for Musical Instrument Crafts, said: “This year’s celebration brought the Musical Instrument Crafts community together, uniting all four pathways - violin, guitar, piano, and woodwind, in a vibrant showcase of creativity, skill, and dedication. It was a true celebration of the artistry at the heart of our school.
“We were delighted to welcome supporters, families, and distinguished guests to honour the achievements of our students and staff. The evening was filled with inspiring performances, thoughtful presentations, and a shared sense of pride.
“We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors and supporters across the instrument-making and restoration sectors. Their generosity, in the form of prizes and ongoing encouragement, highlights the value placed on the craft and commitment our students bring to their work.”
Earlier in the day, the guitar students' hand-made guitars were on display and reviewed by a panel of past and current tutors, luthiers and students.
A formal graduation ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral will be held on Thursday 30th October 2025.
