Hard work, a passion for music and a true love of the piano has led to a recent Piano student at the School of Musical Instrument Crafts landing work with a prestigious London company.
George Warriner, 25, has been studying for around three and a half years on the school’s Piano Tuning and Repair course.
Following his success, he has already started working with some of the most exciting piano experts in London.
Working for both Jaques Samuel Pianos in Edgware, a retailer of pianos and a centre for service, as well as Bechstein Hall in the City of Westminster, a retailer and rehearsal centre for pianists, George is now in demand.
George says: “I’ve really enjoyed my time in Newark and on the course. I’ve always had a passion for music and I have been playing the piano since I was around 11, but I’m really more fascinated with how the instrument works. I always wondered what really makes a piano a piano, so to find there was a course was really great.
“The course has given me knowledge on the mechanisms and anatomy of the piano, when you combine this with the tuning it gives you a really insightful look into the instrument on another level. Tuning is a hard discipline but you can certainly go far with some determination.”
George now works with Jaques Samuel pianos, which is part of the Bechstien Hall group of companies as a house technician, but also works with a rich network of other technicians he has found from being around the industry.
Of the course, George adds: “I really enjoyed the course and since I’ve been able to surround myself with pianos. Without Vic and Simon’s guidance, it would be very difficult to understand.
“I’ve since met piano technicians who have been working for more than 40 years, and they say they are still learning, so I still have plenty to learn. All pianos are different, even if they are the same model or make. I intend to continue working and can’t wait to see where the future might lead.”
