World class craftmanship at Newark

Students from the School of Musical Instrument Craft took their talents on the road recently, exhibiting at the Midlands Woodworking Show alongside fellow learners from Newark College’s furniture making course.

Guitar and violin staff and students from the School of Musical Instrument Craft demonstrated their specialist skills throughout the event, held at Newark Showground, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see new hand-made instruments.

From shaping and assembling components to explaining the intricate processes behind their craft, the team offered an engaging insight into the art of traditional instrument making.

The stand attracted strong interest from attendees, many of whom stopped to ask questions, learn more about the courses on offer, and check out the detailed craftsmanship up close.

Students from Newark College’s furniture making course were also in attendance, showcasing their own work and highlighting the breadth of talent across the college’s creative and technical programmes. Their presence added to a diverse and vibrant display of high-quality craftsmanship.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for students to build confidence, and connect with others who share an interest in woodworking and design.

Violin Making student, Steph, said: "It was great fun - I spent a bit too much on tools and timber, but that's to be expected!"

The Midlands Woodworking Show once again proved to be a successful platform for celebrating skilled craftsmanship, with students playing an important role in inspiring the next generation of makers.
