The event took place at the Barnby Gate Methodist Church on Friday 28 June 2019 and was attended by parents, friends, distinguished guests of the College and members of the public, who all joined together to commemorate the accomplishments of students and staff this year.
Renowned guitarist Clive Carroll and the Tedesca Quartet were also welcomed to the stage to perform sets, playing exclusively with instruments made by graduating students.
Clare Bhabra from the Tedesca Quartet said: “We’ve had the most enjoyable time playing music on an exceptionally high standard of instruments. Some only finished being made this morning and it was a real privilege to be the first to play them.
“It’s been interesting to chat to students and to see how much care, skill and craftsmanship has gone into their work.
“We’re always amazed by the atmosphere at the School of Musical Instrument Crafts. It’s a special and unique place and we’re honoured to be part of the diploma ceremony this evening.”
Special prizes were awarded to high achieving and hardworking learners thanks to the generosity of sponsors including the RAB Trust, Colin Garrett, Madinter, Fletcher and Newman, Windplus and Hiscox Cases.
Tony Roberts MBE presented the Newark Town Prize to violin student, Marios Pavlou, in recognition of his significant contribution to musical instrument crafts this year. Marios said: “I feel very grateful that my tutors have recognised the work I’ve done. I’m always aiming to achieve my dreams and I’ve had a really good three years on the course.
“I‘m excited about all that I’ve learned and my future in the industry. Next I’m going on to Germany to work under well-known violin maker, Stephan von Baehr.”
