This is part one (10 weeks) of a three-part programme. All three parts can be taken in an academic year. Classes take place on Wednesday or Thursday evenings at our Newark Campus. Please state your preference in your application.
Learn the techniques to make a guitar to a design of your choice.
The part-time course is based in the workshops of the highly regarded Newark School of Guitar Making.
The course provides an opportunity to learn the basic techniques and processes involved in making a guitar.
It is the perfect introduction for anyone who wishes to build up specialist knowledge and skills while working at their own pace, either to plan a career in the lutherie trade or just to develop a hobby and make their own instrument.
On the course, you will gain practical experience in everything from guitar design to methods of construction, use of tools and finishing techniques.
You can keep a record that documents all the stages of your work. If you aim to complete a finished guitar in the year, this will involve extra time in addition to classes.
There are no qualifications required for this course.
This course is only available to learners aged 19+.
There is no formal assessment.
Students are required to complete block 1 in order to progress onto blocks 2 and 3.
This is a full cost course, £300 per part.
Equipment and tools are provided by the College. Wood and materials can be purchased independently or through the college. Your tutor can advise you what you will need.
