This is a 10-week, two-hour session per block in guitar making. It is structured into three parts (Autumn- Winter-Spring) that can be taken in an academic year. Classes take place on Wednesday or Thursday evenings at our Newark Campus. Please state your preference in your application.
Learn the techniques to make a guitar to a design of your choice.
The part-time course is based in the workshops of the highly regarded Newark School of Guitar Making.
These sessions will provide an opportunity to learn the basic techniques and processes involved in making a guitar.
It is the perfect introduction for anyone who wishes to build up specialist knowledge and skills while working at their own pace, either to develop a career in the lutherie trade or just to learn a new hobby and make their own instrument.
On the course, you will gain practical experience in everything from guitar design to methods of construction, use of tools and finishing techniques.
You can keep a record that documents all the stages of your work. If you aim to complete a finished guitar in a year, this will involve extra time in addition to classes.
There are no qualifications required for this course. No previous experience, although some woodwork experience can enhance the sessions.
Practical - workshop-based woodwork.
This is a part-time evening course.
There is no formal assessment.
Students can progress onto full-time course.
This is a full cost course, £300 per part.
Equipment and tools are provided by the College. Wood and materials can be purchased independently or through the college. Your tutor can advise you what you will need.
